5. Draper Museum of Natural History (Buffalo Bill Historical Center, Cody, WY): The West is more than people; it’s also about the land. The Draper (which opened at the BBHC in 2002) is a stunning display of our West’s history and ecology. In fact, this 24,500-square-foot showcase might be on its way to surpassing the center’s other museums in excellence. When you consider the Buffalo Bill Museum, Cody Firearms Museum, Plains Indian Museum and Whitney Gallery of Western Art, that’s saying a lot.
Sadly, museum namesake Nancy-Carroll Draper died of natural causes on January 9 at her home near Cody at age 85. We know she was proud of this museum and the entire BBHC.
