Studio photographers always kept pistols and rifles (and clothing) as props. One never knew when a trainload of tourists would arrive at a town like Dodge City and want their photos taken to impress the folks back East. The bona fide guys would usually want to brandish their own weapons. Remember, photography was quite a novelty back then, and even the real McCoys liked to ham it up for the camera.
