Q
A cookbook I've found states Bat Masterson preferred lemon pop to alcoholic drinks. it also claimed his favorite foods were cold tongue sandwiches, and that the old lawman created a wiener sandwich called a Prairie Dog. Is this too tough to swallow?

I hadn’t heard of Bat having any culinary interests, so I asked Masterson’s biographer Bob DeArment. This is what he had to say: “I don’t know where all this came from. I think it would have given Bat a real laugh. I’ve never heard of such a sandwich. He loved to eat, but I doubt if he ever spent any time in a kitchen. In fact, he ate in restaurants most of the time. Bat liked his alcoholic drinks but was never known to get drunk. I have no idea where the notion of his fondness for lemon pop originated. Sounds to me like just another fable.”
So there’s something to chew on.
