Fulcrum, $16.95, Softcover.

The Sioux continually raided small Fort Phil Kearny in Wyoming for wood and supplies. In the fall of 1866, they waylaid a wagon train, killing all teamsters except a blacksmith named Hornsby. Held briefly in a Sioux camp, he glimpsed a captive white woman. Though unaccountably released, he was determined to help free her. Appointed scout by Lt. Col. Fetterman, who  planned to use a wood party as bait on December 21, Hornsby moved 80 of his troops into a strategically planned ambush led by the savvy Sioux Chief Crazy Horse. Reminiscent of the oral tradition, the story comes naturally for this award-winning author who was born and raised on the Rosebud Sioux Reservation.
